SYDNEY—The chairman of the Dymocks Group, which has more than 96 book stores across the Asia Pacific, said Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company was “absolutely fantastic.”
John Forsyth, the great nephew of Dymocks founder William Dymock, saw the show at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre with his wife Ann Verschuer, a former ABC journalist, high-level government adviser and now Dymocks board member.
Tickets to the show were a Christmas present from a family member.
“I’ve never seen people that are so light on their feet and so expressive,” Mr. Forsyth said after Friday night’s performance. “They really do a fabulous art. It’s really a lovely sight—serene and pleasant, and very effective. And I love the backdrops.”
He was referring to the digital images projected behind the dancers, which bring to life scenes of ancient China.
He liked the antics of the Little Mischievous Monks dance, where young monks play up while the abbot is away.
He also said tenor Guan Guimin's performance "Never Lose Your Way" was “really very, very good.”
The pair said they had spent a lot of time travelling in China. They thought the bi-lingual presenters were a “great way” to bring the meanings of the dance performances across to a Western audience.
“I was expecting a lot but I think that it was better than I expected,” Mr. Forsyth said.
Ms. Verschuer agreed.
“It is a fabulous show,” she said.
