One thing that impressed me a lot about the elementary school was that the classrooms were very dilapidated, the glass on the windows were all broken and completely gone, and the windows were only barely nailed with some wooden strips to prevent people from climbing in through the windows.

對小學印象很深的一點，就是教室很破爛，窗戶上的玻璃全都碎了，完全沒有了，窗戶只用些木條勉強釘著，防止人從窗戶爬進來而已。

In winter, the cold wind blew in from all sides and everyone was so cold that they craned their necks, many of them had frostbite on their hands and feet, and the backs of their hands were as red as little buns.

冬天冷風從四面吹進來，大家都冷得縮著脖子，許多人手腳上生凍瘡，手背紅紅的，像個小包子。

Everyone was forced to join the Young Pioneers, wear a red scarf, read Mao's books, collect fertilizer and accumulate manure to support the farmers.

人人被迫入隊、戴個紅領巾、讀毛選，撿肥料、積肥支援農村。
