Sanctuary
By Gerard Traub
Watching the sky
unfold at first light
listening to the breath
and calm of sea
I touch the silence
of a drifting cloud
calling myself
to find sanctuary.
Following a garden’s
fragrant air
soaring on wing
with a bird’s fragility
I embrace the expanse
across distant horizons
stretching myself
to find sanctuary.
Waking to the murmur
of wind and rain
drowning under
the din of technology
I dream of mountains
where forests green
allowing myself
to find sanctuary.
Losing the sun
at another day’s end
escaping the world’s
endless cacophony
I ponder the stars
in the still of night
traversing myself
to find sanctuary.
Longing to find sanctuary
sanctuary longing to find me.
