Countrymen and "Chaotic Times"

Countrymen and "Chaotic Times"

Two weeks ago, I took my “Mr. Countryman," who never wanted to go to "the cities" to New York to see a performance by Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra. When he mentioned this plan to his colleagues, they asked him: "Why would you want to go to that hellish place in New York?"

He replied: "What can I do? Might as well go and die together."

Before we left, he entrusted his car to a colleague for repairs, jokingly saying: "If I die in the city, the car's yours."

Today, he brought this up, and I asked him what his colleague's reaction was when he saw that he had returned safely.

He said, his colleague exclaimed, "Sh*t!" and then they both laughed.

Many "country folks" around where we live are afraid of big cities, finding them quite frightening. Especially recently, the media reported that a large number of illegal immigrants had been transported to New York and were living in luxury hotels, rampant looting and vandalism were happening all over New York, and so on.

As a result, my " Mr. Countryman" almost forced me to call the hotel I booked to ask if there were any illegal immigrants staying there...

I told him not to worry, I had lived and worked in New York for many years, and it wasn't as bad as he imagined. The media often reports only the bad news, so it gives a bad impression, but the reality isn't necessarily so.

After much encouragement, he finally followed me to New York, "quaking in his boots," so to speak.

And the result? Nothing bad happened at all, and we happily returned home after the performance.

However, today, when I saw reports of large-scale pro-Palestine demonstrations around the world, even some storming the White House, I began to worry like a "countrywoman."

Maybe I shouldn't laugh at my husband for being a "countryman." We really do live in chaotic times.

In these chaotic times, do "country folks" have a bit of an advantage over "city folks"?

Maybe they do, maybe they don't.

In chaotic times, perhaps one can only hope that "Heaven protects the virtuous ."
