“Telling the Truth”
I don't know if there are any women in the world like me: I'm okay with getting married, but I don't want a wedding ceremony because it's too bothersome. The only "ritual" we had was quietly taking some wedding photos (as shown in the title picture)
Since we didn't have a wedding and didn't make any public announcement, very few people knew about my marriage. However, my husband proudly talked about it at his company and even put my photo on his phone and computer desktop. At first, people didn't know who I was and asked him where he got a celebrity photo to use as his phone wallpaper.
He happily told them that it was his girlfriend/wife. At first, his colleagues thought he was joking, but they eventually found out it was true. Strangely enough, no one in the company asked for wedding candy (apparently this isn't a Western tradition), nor did anyone ask him to bring me to the office to meet everyone. Even after being married for so long, I only met his sister and one of his close friends. Just as I “hid” him very well, he also kept me "hidden" from others.
However, I'm not sure which of his colleagues started it, but everyone gradually found out about the documentary film "Free China: The Courage to Believe," in which I was featured as a main character. They even went through the trouble of finding it and watching it on some platform.
Today, my husband told me that he was chatting with his colleagues and one of them complained that his wife had no interest in the computer-aided engineering software he used. He joined in and complained that I also had no interest. Then his boss said, "Your wife? She's trying to take down the Chinese Communist Party. You expected her to be interested in a small picture you draw?"
Then everyone burst out laughing.
Well, I never expected that people would find out the “truth” without me saying anything.
