Holding Firmly On To the God Bestowed Staff

Human life is an unpredictable journey
Like that of a message bottle adrift
Upon the rise of one wave
The world has already changed.

The shining stars of last night
So lonely, so high, like a memory of a past life
Lighting up soul after soul
Standing alone on an island
At the end of the world.

This old and everlasting dream
So long, and never ending
Upon returning home
Who can stay true to their first wish?

I hold firmly on to the God bestowed staff
Once used to part the Red Sea.

Yes, holding firmly on to the God bestowed staff
My feet secure on the ground
Life a monk who travels a thousand miles
With only his begging bowl.

Let my thoughts fly into the boundless sky
And when the wind blows
Let me hold firmly on to the God bestowed staff
Coming and going again.
